SNHU Culinary Students Create World's Largest Boston Cream Pie

On Saturday, Sept. 18, Southern New Hampshire University culinary students set out to create the World's Largest Boston Cream Pie. The setting was The 2010 New England Dessert Showcase at Boston's Westin Copley hotel and at stake was turning a ton of ingredients -- literally -- into a mouth-watering 10-foot-wide, 1.5-foot-high pie that would exceed 2,000 pounds. It was a dessert lover's dream paradise.

Starting at 5 a.m. and armed with 346 cakes, 80 gallons of pastry and 15 gallons of chocolate ganache, the students set out to make gastronomic history.

Hour by hour the students stacked cakes, lathered on cream and chocolate frosting and built a pie that caused a jaw-dropping reaction from passersby. By noon the mammoth creation was finished and standing in all its glory, waiting for anyone in sight with a fork and an insatiable appetite for Boston Cream Pie.
