- Student; On Campus

Ina Kerxhalli discovered sociology before she knew it had a name.
"I was interested in communities, human nature," says the sophomore Sociology major who at 16 emigrated from Albania to New Hampshire with her family.
As a student, Ina is making the connection between what she reads in books and what she sees in the world. She's also setting her sights on a career as a social worker.
"Sociology makes you think in a different way," she says.
Courses such as Sociology of the Family and Sociology of Social Problems have been eye-openers, she says.
They've also helped her to better understand her parents and the challenges they've faced.
"I see what my parents have gone through and are going through," she says. "It was hard for me, but even harder for them."
A commuter with a full course load, Ina is helping to organize a sociology club on campus. She also works weekends at a local department store.
"I try not to leave anything for tomorrow that I can do today," she says. "I find time between classes and on breaks at work to do homework."
Ina says what she likes best about SNHU are the small classes and personal attention.
"I'm more in touch with my professors and my classmates," she says.
In Ina's favorite class, the professor, a former social worker, often recounts his experiences in the field and encourages discussion by asking students for their opinions.
"I love that," she says.
