- Student; On Campus

Growing up in Topsham, Maine, Scott Snyder didn't know what he wanted to do with his life. As high school graduation neared, he guessed he'd join the Navy, as had his father.
But though he did very well on the Navy's aptitude test, he failed the hearing exam. Forced to give up his Navy plans, he moved to Newmarket, N.H., with his dad, and enrolled at Great Bay Community College.
Soon Scott was distinguishing himself in several ways – by making the Dean's List, getting elected treasurer of his class, joining the student government association and becoming president of the Great Bay chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for two-year colleges.
By the time he was a sophomore, he had zeroed in on a major – international business – and was considering four-year schools to which he could transfer. He met Bethany Perkins, director of Transfer Admission at SNHU, who helped him enroll in SNHU's novel dual admission program. Dual admission enabled Scott to take courses at Great Bay that were directly applicable to SNHU, making his transfer in 2010 essentially seamless.
"Bethany was very helpful," he says. "She made it easy for me to transfer my Great Bay credits to SNHU. The process was very easy."
Scott has quickly adapted to SNHU and, upbeat about his future, is exploring a range of job possibilities.
"I'm getting a good education at SNHU," he says, "and I’m optimistic about my future now."
