College Unbound@SNHU
Takes Students out of the Traditional Classroom

Manchester, N.H. (Oct. 19, 2010) – College Unbound@SNHU is a three-year intensive program built around internship-based learning. SNHU is the second New England school to roll out College Unbound and will enroll its first class beginning 2011.

College Unbound students work with faculty, professional advisors, mentors and fellow students to tackle real-world problems. Students then bring their knowledge and experiences gathered outside the classroom back to seminars where they apply them in an academic setting.

"College Unbound is our new initiative designed to reach out to students who want a different learning model, who want to save money, and who still want an SNHU campus experience," said SNHU President Paul J. LeBlanc. "By reversing the relationship of field-based learning and the work of the classroom, with the latter now serving the former, we have a breakthrough program for every student who ever chafed at sitting in a classroom for hours and yearned for hands-on learning."

College Unbound is a Big Picture Learning initiative. Big Picture Learning is a nonprofit that manages a network of more than 70 high schools that boast 95-percent graduation rates and 82-percent college continuation rates.

"College Unbound starts with the student--his or her interests, experiences, and passion for learning," said College Unbound co-director Jamie Scurry-Fahy. "The College Unbound@SNHU program then supports each student as he or she wraps all of the broad knowledge and career-specific expertise needed for our 21st-century world into engaging and meaningful work completed with a professional in the field."
