When she was growing up, Radmary Bernabel considered becoming a dentist, an orthodontist and a carpenter.
But after taking art and cooking classes in high school, she realized she most enjoyed working with her hands and creating something.
"I put art and cooking together, the two things I liked the most," Radmary says.
A student in the culinary arts program, Radmary earned her associate degree and is working toward a bachelor's degree in business.
"In case I need a break from cooking or go into a food-related business," she says.
She's also stocking up on experience, including a summer internship at the Wychmere Harbor Club, a beach and tennis club on Cape Cod, where she worked for an executive chef who was an SNHU graduate.
"He was my motivation. If he could do it, I could too," Radmary says.
In the kitchen at the Wychmere, Radmary learned to prepare and present dishes for weddings, making sure that "every plate was exactly the same."
After she graduates, she says, she wants to work in every region of the country, learning about local cuisine and culture, and eventually traveling overseas to do the same.
She's confident she has what it takes.
"Coming into school freshman year, my biggest goal was to own my own business," she says. "I've learned it's really hard, a lot to put together, but it's still a dream of mine."
Thanks to SNHU and culinary program that steeped her in the basics, Radmary says she's ready to take on the world.
"If you put your heart into, SNHU will help you," she says.
