Dr. Eklou Amendah loves being in front of an audience.
A native of Togo who joined SNHU's marketing faculty in 2008, Amendah is a polished speaker who believes dialogue is the key to learning.
"I encourage class discussion and conversation," he says. "I have high expectations of my students, not just to learn the material, but to be active and participate."
An expert in consumer behavior and retailing, Amendah was drawn to SNHU by its small class sizes.
"As a graduate student, I taught classes of 100 students," he says. "Now I teach classes of 30 students. I see that as an opportunity to learn about every single student."
In his classes, Amendah immerses students in the real world of marketing and retail. Each semester he takes his retailing students behind the scenes at a Wal-Mart distribution center. And to teach visual merchandising principles, he has students design their own retail displays using actual Wal-Mart products.
"It's good to come to class and learn concepts, but you have to see how they're applied outside the classroom," he says.
Amendah strives to challenge his students constantly, sometimes pushing them beyond their comfort zone. And he expects the same in return.
"I always say to my students, 'You need to challenge me too,' " he says.
