NHPleinAir Exhibition at SNHU

Manchester, N.H. (Nov. 17, 2010) – An exhibition by NHPleinAir (Painting Landscapes Everywhere in New Hampshire And In the Region), “Painting Free,” is on display at Southern New Hampshire’s University’s Pantano Gallery. Artwork from a collection of recent works by several of the group’s members will be on display from Nov. 1 through Dec. 30. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

NHPleinAir members participate in many outings to paint New England landscapes. Members paint with a variety of mediums, including acrylics, pastels, oils and watercolors.

The phrase en plein air comes from the French meaning “in open air.” The group says it “offers a considerable challenge, not present when working in the studio, as the artist must work quickly and confidently to capture the essence of the scene before the clouds, winds, and even just the normal movement of the sun across the sky cause changes in the lighting, reflections, or other aspects of the scene.”

The members of NHPleinAir include adult artists of all ages and levels, from national award-winners and teaching professionals to beginners who enjoy painting as a hobby. The group will be featured in an upcoming issue of Plein Air Magazine.

The Pantano Gallery is located in Southern New Hampshire University’s Shapiro Library and is open Mondays through Thursdays 8 a.m. to midnight, Fridays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to midnight.

Please call the university’s Shapiro Library at (603) 645-9605 for additional gallery information. Please e-mail msjallen@comcast.net for more information about NHPleinAir.
