Laptop Setup

When you arrive on campus your wireless laptop is setup to communicate with other computers, without cabling, so long as you are in a building with wireless access points. See Laptop Communications for a listing. Additionally, some buildings such as the residence halls are wired for access by connecting your laptop to a network jack.

The first time that you connect to the internet from a wired or wireless campus site, your laptop is checked to be sure it has the latest Microsoft updates and antivirus software installed. This registration process keeps our campus network secure from viruses and other threats. During this process your computer is scanned for viruses. If it detects a virus or determines that your software is not up-to-date, you will receive further instructions.

Turn Firewall Off to Register!
If you have a firewall enabled on your computer, you must turn it off to complete the registration process. Windows XP users may choose Start then Help and Support and then search for Turn Windows Firewall off for instructions.
