During the hours of 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. US Eastern on Friday October 23rd, 2009, Blackboard Engineers will be performing maintenance that could impact Blackboard services.   The service work involves shutdown of several Remote Power Panels (RPP).  When these RPPs are shutdown it will cause the corresponding server racks to lose power, thereby result in loss of connectivity. Faculty and students should expect service interruption and periods of inactivity during this maintenance window.  Blackboard will make every effort to keep the interruptions to a minimum.

  • October 14, 2009 Blackboard Technical Difficulties

  • October 8, 2009 SNHU Website Issues
The snhu.edu website was reported slow at times, and some web forms were not sending data every time. The problem appears to be caused by size issues, and the website server actually locked up due to memory reduction.  The site was down for about 10 minutes, when at approximately 3:25 p.m., a reboot was performed to restore services.

  • October 8, 2009 Notice of Computer Systems Shutdown
A rare but necessary shutdown of all computer systems is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12 (Columbus Day), from 6 a.m. until noon. The reason for this shutdown is to safely install additional electrical capacity in our computer room.

The impact of this shutdown is enormous, but it is felt this is the best time since there will already be a campus-wide power outage that morning for 30 to 60 minutes. Our outage will be longer since it takes quite a bit of time to properly shutdown servers before the power outage and then bring them back online once electricity is restored.

Inbound SNHU e-mail will be held by our Internet provider during the outage and subsequently delivered once our e-mail system is back online.

Systems that will be shutdown include: Datatel, e-mail, SNHU website, EMAS, Library resources, PenPal, Blackboard, Red Dot, Raiser's Edge, dining cash registers, laundry/vending machines, door locks, ID cards, and Penmen Change. Internet service (including wireless) will also not be available from on-campus, although the internet outage will be shorter and internet service is expected to be available once campus-wide power is restored.

Thank you to everyone for your understanding and patience as we upgrade our computing facility.

  • July 15, 2009 Wrap-up on Blackboard Technical Difficulties This Week
Many Blackboard clients experienced issues, from intermittent inaccessibility to complete outages during the network event on July 13, 2009.  Upon further troubleshooting the back end core switches were determined to be the cause of the network latency issues. Because these switches partially failed over a period of several hours the outage became increasingly difficult to isolate.  Blackboard is taking the precautionary measure of replacing both core switches.  At this time, there is no scheduled date on the replacements but it should happen as soon as possible. Dates will be posted as soon as they are scheduled.
