Opportunities for Non-Music Majors

The Southern New Hampshire University Music Program offers a wide variety of opportunities for non-music majors.

All SNHU performing ensembles are open to non-majors. Most ensembles require an audition for part placement, but not for admission.  Only the SNHU Chamber Choir currently requires an audition for admission into the ensemble.

Thirty minute, weekly private music lessons are available on most instruments and voice.  Students earn one credit for each semester of participation.  There is no extra fee for music lessons beyond the cost of tuition.  Space is limited, so sign up early.

SNHU now offers group guitar lessons with Roy D’Innocenzo.    No music background is needed and beginners are encouraged to enroll.  Mr. D’Innocenzo will help you find an inexpensive guitar to purchase if you don’t already own one.

SNHU offers a music history course, FAS 223: Music History and Appreciation, and a music theory course, FAS 323: Music Theory and Composition, which are specifically intended for non-majors.  Non-music majors are welcome to enroll in music major theory or history courses but these courses require an advanced background in music and you should consult the instructor before enrolling.
