Alternative Break programs offer students the opportunity to participate in a group service experience.  While working with national and international communities, the SNHU Alternative Break Program immerses students in a purposeful service experience designed to connect students and community members while enhancing personal growth, mutual awareness and life-long learning.

The Alternative Break program is a week of immersion into different cultural, environmental and socioeconomic communities across the nation and world. Students provide service in exchange for education about current social and cultural issues facing the host communities.

Past trips have focused on

  • Housing
  • Hurricane Relief; in March 2006 SNHU students spent a week helping the residents of Pass Christian, MS Rebuild from Hurricane Katrina
  • Homelessness; in January 2007 SNHU students spent a week in the capital city Washington D.C doing a week of service focused on Hunger and Homelessness
