After nearly six years in the U.S. Navy, Christopher Bennett was interested in pursuing his lifelong goal of earning a bachelor's degree. An Indiana resident, he took online classes at two other universities before enrolling at SNHU in September 2011.
''I did some research and read good things about SNHU,'' he says. ''It seems like they put more thought into their online program than some other schools, where online classes seemed like more of an afterthought.''
A former sonar technician aboard Navy submarines, Bennett is an information and systems analyst for the Townsend Corp., an Indiana company that provides construction, vegetation management and storm-relief services to electric utilities. By majoring in business studies with a concentration in accounting, he hopes to lay the groundwork for future options that might include becoming a CPA or earning an MBA, he says.
With a full-time job and a young family, Bennett is grateful for the flexibility online education offers him. ''Without the online option, it would be really difficult to find time to go back to school,'' he says.
He's also confident that he's learning skills that will benefit him in the future.
''The curriculum is very challenging but not unreasonable,'' he says. ''I didn't feel like I was getting much out of other programs, but I definitely feel like I'm going to school here.''
