Watching his mother and sister earn online degrees from SNHU convinced Adam Link to also enroll.
After earning an associate degree from the College of Southern Maryland, Link began his SNHU studies in 2008. Although he took time off because of work commitments, he resumed his course work after securing a human resources internship with the U.S. Navy in January 2010. A business studies major with a concentration in human resources management, he graduated in April 2012.
Link is putting his degree to work right away as a Navy civilian employee. As a human resources specialist for Naval Air Systems Command at Maryland's Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Link's team oversees civilian staffing for a division of 8,000 employees. As part of his duties, he has helped spearhead the hiring of disabled military veterans for civilian Navy jobs.
''It's really rewarding when you help somebody who deserves the chance,'' he says.
A few months after graduating, Link began an internship with the Navy's Office of Civilian Human Resources, which oversees civilian hiring Navy-wide. His SNHU degree helped him become one of only 20 individuals selected for the two-year post intended to groom the Navy's future HR leaders.
''My degree is already helping me achieve my goals,'' he says. ''The sky's the limit. I really want to experience a lot of different things in the HR field, and eventually down the road attain supervisory and leadership positions.''
