Going to Canada

Visit the Citizenship & Immigration Canada Web site for:
  • Information about requirements for visiting Canada
  • To see if students from your country are required to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa to visit Canada.
  • Download the required form
  • Check Canadian consulate addresses

Apply for your Canadian visa one month before your intended departure date from the USA, or up to eight weeks in advance if you will be applying via mail.

In addition to your passport and I-94, you will need to have a current endorsement on your I-20 or DS-2019 from an international student advisor in the Center for International Exchange. In many cases, an F-1 student with an expired F-1 visa will be eligible for automatic extension of the U.S. visa to re-enter the U.S. if the student has been in Canada less than 30 days; check with an advisor in Center for International Exchange to see if you qualify.
