Run to home base logoUnited States Army Sergeants Major will have the opportunity to expand their leadership skills with an accelerated Master of Education from Southern New Hampshire University. This in-residency program at Fort Bliss, TX, is the result of a partnership with the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) and includes a concentration in Education Leadership. The customized M.Ed. program in curriculum and instruction continues SNHU’s long dedication to the military.

The USASMA invited SNHU to develop this M.Ed. at Fort Bliss to provide the rigorous and practical education instruction this elite corps deserves and requires to train and mentor their subordinates. The eight-course curriculum emphasizes instruction, curriculum development, ethics and organizational leadership and begins in early September 2014. This is the second year that SNHU will offer this program at USASMA.

"Less than 2% of the Army’s NCOs ever make it to the grade of Sergeant Major,” said Bob Stewart, CSM (Ret.) U.S. Army and assistant director of military programs at SNHU. “They are teachers and instructors every day of their lives, as well as role models. This does not happen without the skills, education and experience necessary to be proficient."

This SNHU master’s in education provides students with core K-12 educational principles and theories that will improve their training, leadership and mentoring skills. Students will transfer nine credits of military training into the program toward the 33-credit master’s degree.

Stewart said, "I want to congratulate each and every candidate on their acceptance to the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.  They have an opportunity to attend an institution that only a small percentage of the United States Army ever has the opportunity to do.  They are the Backbone of the Army and for this I want to thank each and every one of them for their continued dedicated service to our country."

The M.Ed offered by SNHU at the USASMA does not lead to teacher or administrative licensure. For more information, visit USASMA.
