Arlindo Neto hopes he sets a great example to prompt high school students to go for their dreams.
As a graduate assistant for the Southern New Hampshire University Partnership Program with area high schools, Arlindo tutors, gives SAT prep lessons, involves high school students in community service activities and acts as a mentor.
“I was the first to graduate high school in my family and now I am just glad that I can inspire high school kids to excel and reach beyond just high school,” he says. “I have been in their shoes, and if I can motivate and reach out to some of them to let them know they can achieve more, that itself is rewarding.”
Arlindo came to the United States from Belo Honzoute, Brazil, in 1997 to attend high school. It was then that he was recruited to play soccer at SNHU. He learned much from a former teammate.
“He taught me to work hard in every situation and the hard work will pay off,” he says. “One of the best times that I had at SNHU was the time the team made it to the National Finals in Virginia. All of our hard work led up to that one deserving game.
“The people I have met and the experiences I have gained at SNHU have changed me from being a student who didn’t care when in high school to a student who wants to excel and motivate other students to get in that ‘deserving game.’”
