Structured Learning
Supplemental instruction labs meet for one scheduled hour per week in addition to class time and are facilitated by peer tutors or members of the Learning Center staff. The extra hour of instruction helps students to better understand the course subject, to review for quizzes/exams, and to discuss course material.
Organized study groups are participative sessions which integrate study skills instruction into the context of the targeted class. Study group leaders are peer tutors or mentors who promote more effective learning by modeling effective student behavior and attitudes and by using the course material to develop efficient and effective learning techniques. Either form of structured learning provides students with the opportunity to develop effective study strategies and organizational skills:
- to better understand the course subject;
- to review and discuss assignments and materials presented in class;
- to review for quizzes, tests and exams;
- and/or to meet with peers in the class.
