Outstanding Peer Educator of the Year

Each month an outstanding Peer Educator is chosen by The Learning Center staff.  Making this selection is not an easy task, because each person who participates in The Learning Center’s program is exceptional, both academically and personally.  Peer educators provide many different services: walk-in, 1-1 or group tutoring, classroom or lab assisting, class-linked tutoring, peer mentoring and supplemental lab coordinating.  However, specific criteria are considered during the selection process to identify outstanding individuals as candidates for this award.  These criteria include, but are not limited to, consistency of effort, flexibility, initiative, level and/or length of service, effectiveness, quality of work and feedback received from faculty and tutees.  A significant amount of consideration is involved in making this decision and every effort is made to be objective, impartial and inclusive.  This recognition is intended to honor the recipient and acknowledge his or her excellence.

Toward the end of the academic year, an outstanding Peer Educator for the academic year is chosen.  This person will have demonstrated excellence in service, consistency of effort, initiative, effectiveness and dedication to the mission of the Learning Center.  He/she would have been certified at the Master C.R.L.A. level and have a history of longevity, reliability and productivity.

Courtney Hatch was selected the Outstanding Peer Educator for 2008 - 2009.  Courtney has worked as a tutor since the spring of 2006, logging over 485 hours of service to SNHU students and has been awarded all three levels of tutor training certification.  She has served in a variety of roles as a walk-in tutor in both math and writing, a 1-1 tutor in math, writing, and psychology, a class assistant for MAT130 and MAT220 as well as a writing class assistant for psychology, and a Learning Center desk assistant.  There are not enough adjectives in the world to describe our well-versed peer educator, but gracious, giving and selfless are a good start.  We are very pleased to recognize Courtney Hatch with this honor.
