CED (M.S.) Specialization in Credit Unions & Cooperatives


The specialization in credit unions & cooperatives introduces people to cooperatives and their place as a strategy and tool of community economic development.and offers people working in cooperatives and/or community economic development to develop skills specific to working in promotion of new cooperatives and in management of existing cooperatives.
  • SNHU has several core CED faculty with cooperative backgrounds and adjuncts with expertise in cooperatives.
  • Internship opportunities with our partner organization, the Cooperative Development Institute in New England or upstate New York to gain experience in rural cooperative development.  Similar internships can be arranged with other cooperative development centers.
  • The Management in Cooperative Organizations course is an advanced course in cooperatives that examines organizational and governance issues that challenge the sustainability of cooperatives.  The course examines current issues such as demutualization, mergers and management controlled boards.  The course will examine case studies and identify best practices for meeting these challenges.
  • Students can enroll in the CooperationWorks! Institute or the Community Development Credit Union Institute for elective credit towards completion of their specialization.
