What is Counseling?

Every human being has the right to a happy healthy life. Each person deserves to be treated with respect, dignity, honesty and openness. Each individual is unique and has the freedom and responsibility to decide their own future.

Counseling is an active process which requires full participation by both the counselor and the client. During counseling the counselor and the client collaborate to assess needs and concerns and then establish goals. Depending on the issues and problems a variety of techniques may be used to accomplish those goals.

Responsibility for the success of counseling lies with both the student and the counselor. Counseling is a way to engage in a relationship with a person who can offer an objective ear and assist you in better understanding yourself and the people around you. Counseling is NOT advice giving or parenting.
