Admission & Academic Advising: SNHU Online

Online academic advising is available to SNHU Online students. Common areas in which an advisor can assist you include:
  • preliminary transfer credit evaluations
  • planning sheet updates
  • course selection
  • course requirements and prerequisites
  • taking a course at another institution
  • CLEP/DANTES
  • petition to graduate
  • portfolio assessment
  • degree program selection
  • residency requirements
  • changes of major
  • applying for a minor

Credit options
Consult with an academic advisor to determine your credit options. The university has adopted a system that allows students to receive university credit through a variety of methods, including CLEP, DANTES, Regents College Examinations, institutional exams, portfolio assessment, cooperative education, transfer from accredited institutions, in-service training courses, military service training programs, and ACE-certified career-related workshops and seminars.

Transfer credits
Credits can also be transferred to Southern New Hampshire University from another college. Simply provide your official transcripts to SNHU Online along with your application for admission and an evaluation will be completed for you. Credits submitted for transfer to Southern New Hampshire University must be a "C-" or better (with a 2.0 GPA average for all courses transferred from the same institution).

Courses at other institutions
If you elect to take a course at another institution while you are a student at Southern New Hampshire University, you must first receive permission from your academic advisor and the Office of the Registrar. Please be aware that you will need to supply a course description from the other school, as well as an official transcript at the completion of the course. These transfer credits will be added to your file after Southern New Hampshire University has received an official transcript from the other school.
