Resident Services
You are responsible for cleaning your own room, townhouse or apartment. They must be kept clean at all times. Vacuums (residence halls only) and trash bags are available from your resident assistant (R.A.). Apartment and townhouse residents are required to provide their own cleaning supplies, including vacuums.
Facilities department workers pick up trash on a regular schedule. You should put your securely tied trash out in plastic bags and dispose of it in the receptacle outside your building (in the trash rooms on each floor in Washington Hall and New Castle Hall). Trash is best put out in the morning to avoid attracting pests.
Do not litter. You may be charged, either individually or as a group, for removal of trash that has not been disposed of properly and must be removed by staff (e.g., trash bags, barrels left in stairwells).
The university maintains card operated laundry facilities in the following buildings: Chocorua Hall, Cranmore House, Rockingham House, Spaulding House, Winnepesaukee Hall, Washington Hall, New Castle Hall, Hampton Hall, Windsor Hall, Conway Hall, and Lincoln Hall. Bring problems with laundry machines to the attention of the residence director for that area. You may obtain refunds through the Dining Services office in the Student Center.
If your room needs maintenance, contact your resident assistant. The R.A. will complete a “Maintenance Request Order” and forward it to the facilities department. If the repair has not been completed within 72 hours, notify the R.A.
During weekends and evenings, if a maintenance emergency should occur, you should contact an R.A. or the public safety office.
The university is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal items. If you are a resident student, you must remove all of your belongings from campus at the end of your contracted term in residence. The university does not provide storage. You should have trunks, boxes, etc taken home or stored commercially. Personal items (bicycles, etc.) may not be stored in any public or common areas in the residence buildings. You may not leave any belongings in residences or in other public areas over the summer months. A number of area businesses offer storage at reasonable rates.
Failure to remove personal belongings will result in assessment charges for removal. The university will remove and hold any belongings left behind for a period of no longer than 30 days. This is not considered to be a storage service, as leaving personal belongings behind is considered to be a violation of the terms and conditions of the Residence Agreement. After the 30 day period, any personal items not retrieved by the student will be discarded.
