This is an introductory course. The history, development, profile and present state of the hospitality and tourism industry will be discussed and analyzed to facilitate its scope by identifying and addressing the characteristics of service with an emphasis on providing high- quality service to the patrons. The different segments of the hospitality and tourism industry, specifically the lodging, food service and travel and tourism industries, will be studied so as to understand their organizational structures, functions and terminology in the broader concept of "service".
