This course provides a comprehensive look at the Caribbean by closely examining the historical roots of its societies, as well as their current sociopolitical developments. The course places special emphasis on the historical trends that shaped today's Caribbean, and on the paticular political characteristics of the region through the analysis of selected country case studies, such as Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.
