POL 329 - Int'l Environmental Law and Negotiation
This course explores the most effective strategies for negotiating environmental agreements of all kinds, with an emphasis on multilateral agreements that are at the center of international environmental law. Students spend much of the course playing and critiquing their own performance in two environmental negotiation simulations. In the first, they assume the roles of stakeholders negotiating the compliance of a private company with air and water pollution control regulations in the United States. In the second, they assume the roles of member-states of the International Whaling Commission negotiating the fate of a controversial proposal to end the international ban on commercial whaling. This course is cross-listed with ENV-329.
