This course examinies the formation, implementation, and content of environmental laws in China, Russia, India, and the European Union as examples of the diverse approaches to environmental sustainability taken by countries around the world. Students spend the last third of the course playing and critiquing their own performance in Stratagem, a computer-assisted simulation game used as a training tool for government and international aid officials. Players assume the roles of government ministers in a less developed country and try to chart a course of environmentally sustainable development for that country over a period of 60 years. Writing intensive.
