Full-time - Director of Online Academic Technology


SNHU Online is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Online Academic Technology.  This individual will manage the implementation of new technologies, production processes and tools that will help deliver the strategic vision of SNHU online. The successful applicant will provide support for Instructional Design’s production of “New Model” courses.  She/he will also review and implement scheduling and tracking tools to manage this, and other core operations in admissions and administration. The position includes troubleshooting and resolution of departmental technology issues as needed.

The position requires a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a minimum of three years project management / management experience, preferably in an academic environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid grasp of e-learning principles and will be able to lead pilot technology projects of a “hands-on” nature, setting up, testing and implementing new software products and systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with open source and/or commercial learning management systems and student information systems.

The Director will also be a key driver of third party relations, working both with vendors and with Computing Resources on our main campus to deliver, support and maintain all systems supporting Online’s mission.

Major Responsibilities:
• Strategize with the executive team on ways to leverage technology to maximize our market share.
• Assist Instructional Design in ensuring scalability, reusability, and efficiency of the production platform to ensure timely delivery of new programs. This includes evaluating, implementing, and customizing tools and processes to support the course development and delivery models.
• Advise and support Online functional teams (Faculty Support, Military, Service & Advising, Design) with technology projects, databases and applications designed to streamline operations.
• Proactively identify technology challenges, recommend and collaborate with constituents to implement solutions.
• Serve as a point of contact with SNHU Computing Resources and certain external vendors.
• Provide technical support services (e.g. hardware/software related issues) to Online staff to reduce dependency on Computing Resources.
• Research and stay current with evolving online course delivery technology to ensure Online remains competitive.
• Participate in efforts to secure and develop research initiatives (e.g. grants) related to elearning space.
