Manchester, NH. (February 7, 2007) - Gov. John Lynch nominated and, with the approval of his Executive Council, appointed Southern New Hampshire University Professor Robert J. Begiebing to the State Council on the Arts.

Begiebing, chair of the university’s M.F.A. in writing program, will join the other arts councilors in guiding the state agency’s policies, strategic plan, fellowships program and fundraising initiatives.

“I was of course honored to be nominated for this position,” Begiebing said. “As one who has lived in New Hampshire since 1972 and a working artist myself, this appointment is a great opportunity for me to make a contribution to the life of the arts in the state and to the help support our many fine individual artists.”

A resident of Newfields since 1973, Begiebing is the author of six books, including a trilogy of New England historical novels and many essays, stories and poems. His writing has received literary grants and prizes.

Begiebing has been with SNHU since 1977. He has won three awards for excellence in teaching.
