MANCHESTER, N.H. – Stef Young (Natick, Mass.) made three saves en route to her first shutout of the season as the Southern New Hampshire University women’s soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw with No. 21 New Haven in the first round of the SNHU Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.  The Penmen now sit at 1-1-1 on the season, while the Chargers remain unbeaten at 1-0-2 thus far.

Saturday marks the second result the Penmen have gained against a nationally-ranked opponent this season.  In the season opener on August 23, SNHU rallied from a 2-0 hole to top then-No. 19 Saint Leo 3-2.

Young earned her first shutout of the season and fourth of her career by making three saves.  Kelly Schindler made two saves for New Haven, which was outshot 16-7 on the afternoon.  The Chargers also recorded a team save as a ball headed towards the UNH goal on a corner kick was knocked away by a New Haven defender.

Both teams return to action in the second round of the SNHU Tournament on Monday.  The host Penmen take on Bridgeport at 2:00, while New Haven faces No. 19 UMass Lowell in a battle of nationally-ranked teams at noon.  UML was a 1-0 winner over Bridgeport in Saturday’s early game.
