SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire women’s soccer players Laurie Boland (Worcester, MA) and Stef Young (Natick, MA) were both honored with weekly awards by the Northeast-10 Conference on Monday.  Boland was named the Co-Player of the Week, while Young received Goalkeeper of the Week accolades.

In addition, four other Penmen student-athletes were named to their respective weekly honor rolls, Alex Brown (Hudson, NH) of the men’s cross country team, Svea Dellea-Messner (Windham, NH) and Melissa Hurley (Ashaway, RI) of the women’s cross country team and Stephanie Dluginski (Floral Park, NY) of the women’s volleyball team.

Boland, a senior midfielder, recorded the game-winning goal in each of Southern New Hampshire’s two victories last week.  She notched a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Assumption last Wednesday, then scored the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Pace Saturday when she converted a penalty kick 5:49 into the first overtime session.  For the season Boland leads the Penmen with two goals and three assists for seven points.

Young posted a pair of shutouts in a 2-0 week last week, blanking the Greyhounds and Setters for her second and third shutouts of the season.  She stopped four shots in the win over Assumption and two more against Pace.  For the season Young has registered a 0.95 goals-against average and .812 save percentage.

Brown was named to the honor roll after opening the 2007 season with a win at the Castleton Invitational with a time of 29:21.  Dellea-Messner finished fourth at the Castleton race on the women’s side with a time of 22:41, while Hurley, a freshman, finished seventh in her first collegiate race with a 23:02 effort.  Dluginski averaged 2.17 blocks and two kills per game in a 2-1 week for the volleyball team and had 11 blocks and eight kills in a win over UMass Lowell, the Penmen’s first since 1986.
