NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Shane Ogilvie notched a pair of goals as Southern Connecticut State University posted a 3-0 Northeast-10 men’s soccer win over Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon at Jess Dow Field. The Owls improve to 5-2-2 overall and 4-1-2 in NE-10 play, while the Penmen are 2-3-3 and 2-2-1 in the league.
The Owls got on the board just one minute into the game when Mike Fraioli took a pass from Djordje Jankovic and knocked it home for an early 1-0 lead. That would be the halftime score, but the hosts would strike early again, this time 44 seconds into the second half, when Jankovic’s free kick was driven in by Ogilvie. Ogilvie would score SCSU’s third goal with just over 13 minutes to play when he scored off a through ball off the foot of Tom Matters.
Brendan Lawless made a pair of saves en route to the shutout for Southern Connecticut, which outshot Southern New Hampshire 11-8. Dan Pelc (Hamilton, ONT) made two saves for the Penmen.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts Franklin Pierce University in a 7:00 contest at Larkin Field.
