MANCHESTER, N.H. – No. 18 Franklin Pierce University posted a 3-1 Northeast-10 women’s soccer victory over Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field. The win improves the Ravens to 8-1-2 overall and 6-1-2 in league play, while the Penmen are now 5-7-1 and 3-5 in NE-10 action.
The Ravens got on the board at exactly the 27:00 mark when they were awarded a penalty kick after Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) was fouled on a header attempt in the box. Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) would convert the penalty kick to give FPU a 1-0 lead and the only goal of the first half.
Franklin Pierce made it 2-0 1:09 into the second half when Mackenzie Bulych (Regina, SASK) found a wide-open Kelly Johnson (Stamford, CT) at the top of the box. Johnson converted an 18-yarder to make it 2-0. The Ravens would make it 3-0 when Johansson scored on a restart with Jenna Giardina (Pittsfield, MA) and Kristen Cilley (Belchertown, MA) recording assists on the play.
The Penmen would break up FPU’s shutout bid with 2:36 left when Laurie Boland (Worcester, MA) converted a penalty kick after she was fouled in the box.
Brittany Ester (Toms River, NJ) made one save for the Ravens en route to the victory, while SNHU keeper Stef Young (Natick, MA) stopped four shots.
Southern New Hampshire hits the road for its next game Wednesday, traveling to Southern Connecticut State University for a 7:00 match.
