Teacher Certification Programs

Many of our programs lead to teacher certification. Students wishing to become certified educators apply to the Teacher Certification Program after acceptance to the university and completion of some course work. A committee evaluates evidence of student performance regarding the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed for their certification area. Students are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA and submit a writing sample, faculty evaluations of student dispositions, and passing Praxis I scores.  In addition to the application submitted by the student, the committee also considers any feedback provided by full and part-time faculty, advisors, field practitioners, or other parties who have relevant information to share about the student. Students are accepted to the TCP upon receiving a majority of favorable votes of the members of the committee.  Upon acceptance to the TCP, students may enroll in EDU, SPED, and/or RDG courses at or above the 300 level or graduate level equivalency.  Students in the TCP are required to continue to meet all academic requirements as they progress through their program.  Additionally, they will consistently demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required for their certification area.
