Men's Basketball Cruises Past Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J. – Troy Bowen (Nashua, NH) led four Southern New Hampshire University players in double figures with 20 points as the Penmen posted a 73-61 men’s basketball victory over host Caldwell College in the first round of the ECAC/Commerce Bank Classic Saturday afternoon.  SNHU won its second straight to go to 4-5 overall, while the Cougars, the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion, is now 2-5.

Bowen finished 8-12 from the floor and also drained a pair of three-pointers.  Sam Carey (Manchester, NH) went 6-7 from the floor and registered 16 points and eight rebounds, while Chase Miller (Fairfax, VA) totaled 12 points and four assists.  Cory Vejraska (Alachua, FL) added 11 points.

The Penmen jumped out to a 39-29 halftime lead after shooting a sizzling 66.7% (16-24) over the opening 20 minutes and ended up shooting 56.3% for the contest.  Southern New Hampshire also held a 32-28 rebounding advantage.

SNHU faces Dominican College in the tournament’s second round Sunday at 2:00 pm.
