The Endowment for Health, New Hampshire's largest health foundation, has elected two new members to its board of directors: Southern New Hamphire University Professor Eleanor Dunfey-Freiburger and Richard H. Showalter.

Dunfey-Freiburger is a professor of ethics and civic engagement for Southern New Hampshire University.  Her professional background is wide and varied, including 10 years with Omni Hotels and as founding member of New England Circle/Global Citizens Circle, a nonprofit educational forum focused on civil discourse and constructive change. She has been managing director and co-chair of that organization for most of the past 20 years. Dunfey-Freiburger will serve as Endowment for Health Board secretary and will also serve on the foundation’s governance committee.

Richard Showalter is senior vice president and treasurer for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock organizations. He has served as chief financial officer of the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital for the past 22 years and of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic for eight years. Prior to that he served in a similar role at Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island and has worked in public accounting.  Showalter is a CPA and will now serve on the Endowment’s investment committee.

"We are pleased to welcome Eleanor and Dick to our board of Directors,” said Dr. James W. Squires, president of the Endowment for Health. “Their leadership and expertise will be invaluable as the Endowment for Health grows and evolves, finding new ways to improve the health of the people of New Hampshire.”

The Endowment for Health was established in 1999 and is the state’s largest health foundation. Since 2001, the Endowment has awarded 523 grants, totaling $23 million, to 195 organizations to support a wide range of health-related programs and projects in New Hampshire.
