Baseball Falls to East Stroudsburg

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Southern New Hampshire University dropped a 10-5 baseball decision to East Stroudsburg University Friday afternoon.  The Warriors improved to 7-9 with the victory, while the Penmen remain searching for their first win of the season at 0-3 overall.

Freshman Tim Rines (Northfield, NH) remained hot at the plate, going 4-5 with two runs batted in.  Ryan Thompson (Westford, MA) was 3-5 with a RBI and three runs scored, while Skyler Byrd (Milford, NH) also drove in a run.

The Penmen jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when a RBI double by Rines drove in Thompson.  The Warriors would respond with three runs in the second and another in the third to take a 4-1 lead after three innings.  The Penmen closed the gap to 4-3 in the fourth with RBI singles from Thompson and Byrd, but ESU scored four more times in the top of the fifth to take an 8-3 lead.

Bryant Gauthier (Lynn, MA) took the loss for the Penmen, allowing five hits and five earned runs in 4.1 innings of work.

Southern New Hampshire faces Ashland University Friday evening and takes on Hillsdale College in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 10:00 am.
