SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Host Bryant University swept a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader from Southern New Hampshire University by scores of 8-2 and 3-1 Thursday afternoon at the Bryant Softball Complex.  The Bulldogs improved to 10-6 and 8-0 in NE-10 play, while the Penmen are now 3-8 and 0-4 in the league.

In game one, Bryant, which was playing as the visitor, broke open a 3-2 game with five runs in the top of the seventh.  The Penmen took a 1-0 lead in the botton of the second when Nicole Arpin (Cheshire, CT) worked a two-out walk and later scored when Laurie Boland (Worcester, MA) reached on an error.  Bryant scored three times in the top of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead, but SNHU got one back in the bottom of the frame when Karissa Bettencourt (Norton, MA) led off the inning with a walk and later scored on a sac fly by Andrea Clausi (Kingston, NY).

Janine Enos earned the win for Bryant, allowing just four hits in a complete game effort.  Ashley Bernstein (Stoughton, MA) took the loss for SNHU.

In game two, the Bulldogs plated two runs in the fifth and another in the seventh to take a 3-0 lead.  The Penmen, who stranded eight runners in the nightcap, plated their only run in the bottom of the seventh when a double by Casey Stoodley (Salem, NH) doubled to score pinch runner Arpin.  Stoodley finished with three hits in the nightcap.

Mary Bradford (Big Bear, CA) scattered six hits and took the loss on the mound for the Penmen.

SNHU returns to action Saturday when it travels to Assumption College for a NE-10 doubleheader.
