Women's Tennis Rolls Past Assumption 8-1
MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University rolled to an 8-1 Northeast-10 women’s tennis victory over Assumption College Monday afternoon at the SNHU courts. The Penmen, who have won two in a row and five out of their six matches in the spring season, improved to 6-4 overall and in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds are now 4-6 overall and in the league.
Leading SNHU was freshman Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia), who upped her singles record to 5-1 with a 6-3, 7-6 win. Kristen Franco (Bedford, NH) was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at third singles, while Juliet Verhofstad (Plymouth, NH) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 4. Melissa Ramos (Stoughton, MA) was victorious at fifth singles by a 6-1, 6-0 count, while Amanda Nason (Center Sandwich, NH) was an 8-2 winner at No. 6.
The Penmen swept the double matches, as Echeverry and Lauren Nigrelli (Westerly, RI) were 8-3 winners at No. 1. Alison Waring (Westboro, MA) and Verhofstad were 8-4 winners at No. 2, while Ramos and Nason improved to 9-0 this season in doubles play with a 8-1 win at No. 3.
SNHU returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Saint Michael’s College in a 4:00 match at the SNHU courts. The Purple Knights enter the match second in the NE-10 standings.
