No. 13 C.W. Post Slugs Past Softball
BROOKVILLE N.Y. – Thirteenth-ranked C.W. Post swept a softball doubleheader from Southern New Hampshire University by scored of 10-1 (5 innings) and 12-11 Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers improved to 33-12 with the victories, while the Penmen are now 9-14 overall.
In the opener, SNHU would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Karissa Bettencourt (Norton, MA) led off the game with a double and after getting bunted over to third, scored on a double by Casey Stoodley (Salem, NH). That lead would hold until the bottom of the second when C.W. Post scored three times. The hosts would tack on five more runs in the third and two in the fourth.
Stoodley finished with a pair of hits in the opener, while Mary Bradford (Big Bear, CA) took the loss.
In the nightcap, the Penmen used a six-run fourth, highlighted by a Stoodley grand slam, to take a 8-6 lead. The Pioneers would cut the lead to 8-7 in the sixth, but in the top of the seventh, Andrea Clausi (Kingston, NY) would lead off with a home run and Ashley Guertin (Manchester, NH) would belt a two-run bomb later in the frame. However, C.W. Post would score five times in the bottom of the frame, using two home runs of its own, to secure the sweep.
Stoodley and Valerie Martins (Somerset, MA) each finished with two hits apiece in the nightcap.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Sunday when it faces Molloy College for an 11:00 am doubleheader.
