Women's Tennis Opens NE-10 Tournament Play Wednesday
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University women’s tennis team has earned the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 tournament and will travel to third-seeded Bentley College for a quarterfinal round match Wednesday at 2:00. The Falcons posted a 5-4 win over the Penmen when the two teams met last week in Manchester.
Southern New Hampshire has posted a 6-2 record in the spring and enters the tourney 7-5 overall and in league play. The Penmen are led by freshman Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia), who has posted a 7-1 singles mark since joining the team at the start of second semester. Melissa Ramos (Stoughton, MA) has posted an 8-3 singles mark, while Granite State products Amanda Nason (Center Sandwich, NH) and Juliet Verhofstad (Plymouth, NH) have registered 8-4 and 6-5 marks in singles play, respectively.
In doubles action, Ramos and Nason have compiled a perfect 11-0 mark in competition this season at No. 3 singles. Echeverry and Lauren Nigrelli (Westerly, RI) have posted a 6-2 mark at No 1 singles.
Bentley enters the tournament with a 12-5 overall mark and a 10-2 Northeast-10 record.
