Echeverry, Stoodley, Clark Garner NE-10 Accolades
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Freshman Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) of the Southern New Hampshire University women’s tennis team was named the Northeast-10 Player and Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. Penmen softball player Casey Stoodley (Salem, NH) was named the NE-10 Player and Freshman of the Week in that sport, while junior women’s lacrosse goalie Katie Clark (Norwich, CT) was named the NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week.
In addition, three other SNHU student-athletes, Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT) of the women’s lacrosse team, Melissa Ramos (Stoughton, MA) of the women’s tennis team and Mike Ball (Salem, NH) of the men’s lacrosse team were named to their respective weekly honor rolls.
Echeverry posted a perfect 6-0 record in three matches last week, posting wins at No. 1 singles against Assumption, Saint Michael’s and Bentley while also teaming with Lauren Nigrelli (Westerly, RI) to go 3-0 at No. 1 doubles against the same schools. Since arriving at the semester break, Echeverry is 7-1 in singles play while posting a 6-2 mark in doubles action.
Stoodley batted .500 (9-18) in a 3-3 week for Southern New Hampshire, belting three home runs while driving in nine runs. She belted a grand slam in a 12-11 loss to nationally-ranked C.W. Post on Saturday. She also registered a pair of doubles for the week as five of her nine hits went for extra bases. Stoodley currently ranks third on the Penmen in batting average (.309) while she has driven in a team-high 15 runs.
Clark recorded a 7.50 goals against average and a .571 save percentage in victories over American International and Bryant last week. In the Bryant win she stopped 14 of the 24 shots she faced for a .583 save percentage. For the season, Clark ranks second in the NE-10 in save percentage (.474) and goals-against average (11.57).
Parent, who leads SNHU in scoring with 40 goals and 24 assists, totaled nine goals and an assist in the AIC and Bryant wins. She totaled five goals and two assists in a 23-10 win over Bryant.
Ramos was also 6-0 last week, posting three wins at No. 5 singles, including the match-clinching point in a 5-4 win over Saint Michael’s on Wednesday. She was also 3-0 at third doubles with Amanda Nason (Center Sandwich, NH) as the duo closed out the regular season 11-0 in doubles play.
Ball continued his torrid scoring pace as he totaled seven goals and an assist last week. He registered three goals and an assist in an overtime loss to Saint Anselm and posted four goals in a loss to top-ranked Le Moyne on Saturday. He continues to lead the NE-10 with 48 goals and five assists for 53 points through 10 games.
