Penmen Well-Represented on Women's Tennis All-Conference Team
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University was well-represented on the Northeast-10 Conference women’s tennis All-Conference Team announced Sunday, as it claimed four spots on the team. The team of seniors Melissa Ramos (Stoughton, MA) and Amanda Nason (Center Sandwich, NH) was named First Team at No. 3 doubles, while Ramos was a Third Team selection at No. 5 singles. Freshman Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) was a Second Team choice at No. 1 singles, while the duo of Echeverry and Lauren Nigrelli (Westerly, RI) were named to the Third Team at first doubles.
Ramos and Nason, who were on the Second Team as a doubles tandem last season, went undefeated during the season, going 11-0 during the regular season and 13-0 overall including SNHU’s two postseason matches. In three years as a doubles team, Ramos and Nason have posted a record of 29-7. In singles play, Ramos was 8-3 during the regular season and 9-4 overall as she was named All-Conference for the second time in her career.
Echeverry joined the Penmen at the semester break and had an immediate impact as she posted a 7-1 record in singles play during the regular season and a 9-1 mark overall. Her only loss came to Pace’s Natalija Subotic, who was named the NE-10 Player of the Year. Echeverry and Nigrelli combined for a 6-2 record in the regular season in first doubles play.
The Southern New Hampshire University women’s tennis team advanced to the Northeast-10 semifinals for the first time in program history, falling to second-seeded Saint Michael’s. The Penmen posted an overall record of 8-6.
