SNHU Donation to The Way Home
Supports Pearl St. Fire Effort

Manchester, N.H. (May 1, 2008) – In an effort to support the victims of the recent Pearl Street fire, Southern New Hampshire University employees raised $8,816 over three days and presented a check to The Way Home’s Executive Director Mary Sliney. SNHU President Paul LeBlanc supported the fundraising campaign with a dollar-for-dollar match.

The Way Home helps low income households obtain and keep safe, affordable housing with direct housing assistance services; encourages empowerment of low-income tenants and supports community advocacy for housing.

“SNHU is unmatched for its commitment to the local community and has been recognized as such by The Red Cross, The Moore Center, and others,” said LeBlanc. “The generosity of our faculty and staff in the face of such loss and need is simply an extension of that commitment.”

“The Way Home has long been included as an integral part of a rapid response delivered by partner organizations within our community when a disaster strikes, such as when the fire on Pearl Street recently displaced numerous families and individuals,” explained Sliney. “In turn, Southern New Hampshire University staff and faculty have delivered their own rapid response to the community need, spontaneously raising an astounding amount of money within three days and thereby opening their hearts and their hands to those in desperate need.”
