Darrell, Anderson Earn NE-10 Freshman of the Week Honors
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Freshmen Sherry Darrell (Bow, NH) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team and Elena Anderson (Salem, WI) of the Penmen softball team both received their respective Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Week awards, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. In addition, Carole Lee (Derry, NH) and Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT) of the women’s lacrosse team and Karissa Bettencourt (Norton, MA) of the softball team were named to their respective weekly honor rolls.
Darrell totaled four goals and three assists in SNHU’s two Northeast-10 Tournament games. She registered four goals and two assists in the Penmen’s semifinal victory over Bryant to lift Southern New Hampshire into its first-ever championship game. Darrell finished her freshman campaign with a team-high 31 assists and along with 40 goals, her 71 points ranked second on the squad.
Anderson finished 4-7 in the softball team’s only action last week, a doubleheader split with Assumption. She had an RBI in each game and recorded a pair of doubles in a 7-2 victory in the nightcap. Over Anderson’s final seven games this season she batted .455 (10-22) with seven runs batted in, including a walkoff home run in a victory over Stonehill April 27.
Lee registered a team-high nine goals in SNHU’s two NE-10 tournament contests. She recorded five goals in the semifinal victory over Bryant then added four goals in the championship game against Stonehill. Lee recorded a single-season school record 52 goals this season.
Parent totaled four goals and four assists in two games last week. The junior, who led Southern New Hampshire this season with 48 goals and 28 assists for 76 points, notched three goals and three assists in SNHU’s 22-14 semifinal win over Bryant.
Bettencourt, who finished second on Southern New Hampshire with a .323 batting average for the season, was 4-7 in the doubleheader with Assumption, going 3-4 in the first game of the twinbill with a run batted in.
