MANCHESTER, NH - Romelle Burgess, a former member of the Southern New Hampshire University men’s soccer team and a 2006 SNHU graduate, performed tirelessly for the full ninety minutes in Barbados’ 8-0 loss to the U.S. Men’s National Team in World Cup qualifying in Carson, CA on Sunday, June 15.

Romelle’s work rate and defensive pressure in his central midfield position showed that he can play at the international level. Though his team was overmatched by the U.S., Burgess held his own in the central midfield and forced the U.S. to work around his area in their frequent attacking build up.

Burgess played for the Penmen from 2002-05 as a midfielder and is one of just four players in program history to earn All-Conference honors four times.  He was a Northeast-10 Second Team selection in 2002 and 2005 and a Third Team choice in 2003 and 2004.  He was also an All-New England selection in 2004.

The second leg of the two-game series between the United States and Barbados will be played on Sunday, June 22 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN Classic and Galavision. Fans can also follow the match live on ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker.

Burgess is also currently playing club soccer for the New Hampshire Phantoms of the United Soccer Leagues PDL Division. Joining him on the Phantoms are current SNHU players Matt Delaney, Brendan Joseph, Gabe Mercier, Kevin Woods and Paulson Edum. The Phantoms will be playing all of their remaining home games at SNHU, beginning with the next home game Thursday June 19th at 7:30 pm against the Cape Cod Crusaders in a match between the top two teams in the division.  For more information on the Phantoms visit www.nhphantoms.com.
