The faculty of Southern New Hampshire University’s Master of Fine Arts in fiction and nonfiction will read from and discuss their works during the week of July 28. The readings will take place in the Walker Auditorium of Robert Frost Hall during the M.F.A. program’s 10-day summer residency. Readings are free and open to the public and the university community.

The schedule includes:

July 28 at 7 p.m.      Katie Towler and Kim Ponders
July 29 at 7 p.m.      Merle Drown, Richard Adams Carey and Gretchen Legler
July 30 at 6:30 p.m.  Robert Begiebing and Diane Les Becquets

“These faculty presentations are an opportunity for people in the community to discover the really fine writers of fiction and nonfiction who teach in the university’s M.F.A. program,” said Begiebing, director of the M.F.A. program. “These are outstanding writers whose work has been recognized nationally by reviews, grants, fellowships and prizes.”

Carey’s book “Raven’s Children: An Alaskan Culture at Twilight” was chosen as a Notable Book of the Year in 1992 by the New York Public Library and “Against the Tide: The Fate of the New England Fisherman” won the 2002 New Hampshire Writers’ Project Nonfiction Prize. His most recent book, widely and favorably reviewed, is “The Philosopher Fish: Sturgeon, Caviar, and the Geography of Desire” (2005), due out in paperback this spring. Begiebing’s most recent novel, “Rebecca Wentworth’s Distraction,” won the 2003 Langum Prize for historical fiction. Other novels in the trilogy have been widely reviewed and chosen as Main Selections for the Literary Guild and the Mystery Guild book clubs. Les Becquets is the award winning author of three novels: "The Stones of Mourning Creek," "Love, Cajun Style" and "Season of Ice," the latter for which she received a prestigious PEN American fellowship.

Faculty books are available for purchase in the campus store in the Student Center.
