Microenterprise & Development Institute - East Africa (MDI-EA)

Oct. 20 - Nov. 1, 2008
Belinda Ocean Resort, Jangwani Beach, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Two Workshop Options Offered for Development Practitioners:

  1. Community-Managed Microfinance: A new and sustainable approach to microfinance for the poor

This course deals with providing sustainable financial services for the very poor.  Although MFIs are well-established, they have mostly failed to penetrate remote rural areas because the costs are too high and the demand for credit too small.  Meanwhile, over the last 15 years, massive, sustainable programmes have emerged that reach this target group at very low cost, based on autonomous, small-scale savings and loan associations.

  2. Pro Poor Enterprise Development (PPED)

The Pro-Poor Enterprise Development Program (PPED) is a two-week seminar with three modules that prepares participants for all stages of PPED projects from basic concepts through research and market assessment, design and planning, and implementation. The course is suitable for managers, donors and practitioners who are involved in value chain, BDS or market development programs that target poor producers and entrepreneurs in the Africa region.
