The McIninch Art Gallery at Southern New Hampshire University will present “Drawing the Line” from Sept. 25 through Oct. 25. An opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in Robert Frost Hall. The musical group Aksara will perform during the reception.

The exhibition, which was curated by McIninch Art Gallery Director Debbie Disston, invites viewers to take a closer look at drawings. It examines the range of media, techniques, subjects and styles that can be found in drawings from the 18th to the 20th centuries. In works by artists as diverse as Annibale Carraci, Charles Woodbury and Larry Rivers, the selected images demonstrate the artists’ mastery of materials such as graphite, charcoal, Conte crayon, pastel, ink and paint. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Museum of Art, University of New Hampshire, where it will be shown from Jan. 24 through April 8, 2009.

Aksara is a seven-woman a cappella ensemble from southern New Hampshire that was created in 1998. Their enchantingly expressive harmonies and variation in repertoire and instrumentation bring the listener to a place of composed peacefulness; it is an experience, not an event.
