Back to Work

The Back to Work module of Making Financial Connections explains various work incentives that can help a person with disabilities return to work, including the availability of health insurance. While living with a disability presents many day-to-day challenges, it can be empowering to rejoin the working world. A daily routine, meaningful work, and earned income all go a long way to improving self-esteem and financial stability. One of the most common misconceptions about returning to work is that you will lose your Social Security Administration (SSA) disability benefits. The fact is many SSA programs exist to help you re-enter the workforce.   The Back to Work module is designed to help you identify the benefits and work incentives available to you, including:
  • Work incentives available for those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
  • Work incentives available for those receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
  • Medicaid options that you may be eligible for even if you are working.

This module was developed in partnership with Nellie Goron of Granite State Independent Living and Joanne Malloy of the Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire.
