Free Tax Help at SNHU
Get free tax filing help this tax season at Southern New Hampshire University.
SNHU accounting and taxation students once again will help members of the community file their basic tax returns.
Students have been certified by the Internal Revenue Service to participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and will prepare and electronically file basic 1040 tax returns and nonresident returns. This service is free and will be available from Jan. 27 through April 4. (Please note that volunteers will not be available the week of March 24.) Trained volunteers are able to assist students, seniors, low-income residents, disabled residents, non-English-speaking taxpayers, international students and others.
Volunteers will be available on campus in Webster Hall Room 107 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Fridays, and in Webster Hall Room 111 on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Individuals who wish to take advantage of this free filing service should bring a picture ID, a Social Security card and any relevant tax forms, such as interest income forms and W-2s. If available, copies of the previous year’s tax returns are helpful.
Most filers who use direct deposit can split their refund between a savings or checking account and normally will receive their refunds within 10 days, said Dennis C. Shea, SNHU-VITA program coordinator.
